By giving bonuses to each of the other characters when they are near other characters I am trying to give a sense that they affect one another, that their lives are connected somhow. It also gives a more strategic approach to heroes. These bonuses work across players and even affect the enemy. Eg: If your General Grievous is fighting against your enemys Jango Fett both units gain the bonus.
